Engineering Intelligence for Aluminium Extrusion

The challenge

Aluminium extrusion manufacturers can accumulate thousands of historical profiles and dies. When a new geometry is introduced, engineering teams need to answer more than one question: whether a sufficiently similar profile already exists, which historical production cases are relevant, and how the new profile should be produced.

The decision may involve geometric similarity, orientation, scale, dimensions and thickness, as well as production variables such as press selection, pressure, speed and other process parameters. This knowledge is often distributed across historical data, production records and expert judgement.

The approach

OBVERA is developing an engineering intelligence system that processes and normalizes profile geometry, evaluates candidate matches through multiple computational methods and connects similarity results with historical production data. The system identifies relevant historical profiles and supports recommendations for production setup, including suitable press selection and parameters such as pressure and speed.

The objective

The objective is to give engineering and production teams a faster, repeatable and more systematic way to reuse historical knowledge. The system is designed to help answer not only “what is similar?” but “what is the most relevant historical case, and how should we produce this profile?”
